With shortstop Theron Hammond leading the charge, the Syracuse Storm defeated the Put-In-Bay BC, 7-5, at Storm Park. Hammond, who is tied for 2nd in the SA in hits with 76, was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Syracuse reliever Ernesto Cortéz picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Chiel Abspoel shouldered the loss. Martin Besnier picked up the save for Syracuse, his 3rd of the year.
Hammond came through with some timely hitting for Syracuse. With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the second and two down, Hammond hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring double. It was his 7th double of the season -- and a big reason the Storm managed to win.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Hammond.
After today's action, Syracuse sits at 41-30, while Put-In-Bay falls to 37-34.
