|
Hammond pitcher Alberto Mendoza did his part in helping his team beat the Nebraska Plainsmen, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Mendoza went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 4-2. Earning his 9th save for Hammond was Esteban Jiménez.
In the bottom of the fifth, Hammond second baseman Rex Scurlock had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and one out, Scurlock stroked a run-scoring single to left-center. It made the score 2-0, Hammond. For the game, he was 1 for 4.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling pretty confident after that win," said Mendoza.
Hammond is now 29-11, 3 games up in the Silver A.
