Bulls Get One-Run Win at Grim
The Mt. Vernon Bulls topped the Grim Reapers, 5-1, in USSL Single A action at The Coffin. The player of the game was Mt. Vernon pitcher and Samana, Dominican Republic native Javier López. López, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 4, and allowing 1 earned run. Even with the win, the Mt. Vernon Bulls have a dismal 9-23 record.

A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fourth inning when the Bulls sent teenager Ken Gardner to the plate against Reapers hurler Ramón Castaneda. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 1-2 slider to score 2.
