Plainsmen Come Up Short at Syracuse
|
The Syracuse Storm picked up a win at Storm Park, knocking off the Nebraska Plainsmen, 4-1. Starting pitcher Bob Browning, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Browning, now 3-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 1 earned run. Jim Unknown finished to wrap up his 1st save.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with Syracuse trailing 1-0, Phil Sherman was at the plate when Syracuse scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Storm to go in front, 2-1.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Nebraska skipper Juan Sánchez, "and it cost us."
Losses have been rare for the Plainsmen, who are now 7-3.
