The Bellevue Bruins picked up a win at Hawks Field, knocking off the Highwood Hawks, 3-1. Starting pitcher Ray Mangas was an essential part of his team's success. Mangas got the win, improving to 5-4. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1 over 6.2 innings. Mangas allowed 1 earned run. The save went to Alfonso Santa Maria, his 5th this season.
The Bruins beat the Hawks in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the single Alonso Zamora produced in the top of the fourth. Batting against Highwood pitcher Austin Carlan, he gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"Both teams played hard," said Bellevue manager Ricardo Martínez.
The Bruins now own a record of 28-33.
