Patriots Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Divided
|
The Patriots had to overcome a fine performance from D.C. pitcher Leslie Brooks to grab a 9-7 win at Dunkin Donuts Park. Brooks went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Boston improves to 68-39 with the win. They lead their division by 2˝ games.
The Patriots were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when pinch hitter Chad Armstrong turned a 0-1 cutter from Gabriel Hidalgo into a 3-run home run. The walk-off home run sent a roar through the crowd and gave Boston a thrilling 9-7 win.
Armstrong said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
