Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Galesburg Guzzlers got the win.
Bellevue got a terrific performance from pitcher Tye Collyer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Galesburg Guzzlers. Galesburg won the Galesburg Field contest, 3-2. Collyer was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Tex Estes was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Anaías Pedroza locked down his 7th save.
In the bottom of the 8th, catcher Adrián Gómez gave Galesburg the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Guzzlers had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out single off Bellevue pitcher Will Moore changed that -- and Galesburg went on to win.
"We'll savor this win," Gómez told the Galesburg Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."
Galesburg now owns a record of 27-25.
