Retrievers Nip Grey Wolves, 6-5

The Northern Virginia Retrievers did just enough to secure a 6-5 victory over the Vancouver Grey Wolves at Wolf Den in Vancouver. Nobody did more than designated hitter Jake Richardson, who captured player of the game honors. Harold Elkins notched his 6th save in 7 chances. The 9th-place Retrievers are now 40-66, the Grey Wolves 48-58.
Richardson came through with some timely hitting for Northern Virginia. With the score 1-0 in the top of the first and two down, Richardson hit a 2-2 fastball for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season -- and a big reason the Retrievers managed to win.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Richardson told the Northern Virginia Chronicle. "Whatever it takes."
