Tight Tilt Goes to Mango, 4-3
|
The Provo Mango picked up a win at Mango Yard, knocking off the Highwood Hawks, 4-3. Starting pitcher Salvador Torres, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Torres went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 2-0. Losses have been rare for the Hawks, who are now 10-4.
One important at-bat came with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. That's when Daniel Maldonado, who is tied for 6th in the 3A in home runs with 1, hit a sacrifice fly. The Mango went on to win.
"I liked his command," said Provo manager Ken Miller. "Salvador was throwing strikes."
