Continentals Get 5-3 Win Versus Mercer Island
|
The Chesapeake Continentals turned back the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 5-3, at Chesapeake Grounds. Bryan Sanders was named player of the game for his fine performance. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Oliver Huerta got the win, improving to 5-5. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The Continentals are now 49-53, while the Screaming Eagles fall to 66-36.
Sanders contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Chesapeake in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 3-2, Sanders took a splitter from Valentín Rivera and stroked the home run to left-center. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Continentals to leap in front, 4-3.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Sanders told the Chesapeake Gazette.
