Mercer Island beat Athletic Club KC Academy on the strength of starter Valentín Rivera's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 3-2 win. Mercer Island improves to 51-31 with the win. They lead their division by 3½ games.

Also having an impact was center fielder Ron Gérard, who stroked a solo home run in the bottom of the second for Mercer Island. For the game, Gérard went 1 for 3 with a home run.
