Loons Defeat Screaming Eagles, 5-2
|
The Minnesota Loons beat the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 5-2, at Loony Bin. Minnesota center fielder Alfredo Arévalo earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2-4 with a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. José Larranaga picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 1. On the season, he is now 4-5. At 35-45, Minnesota is in 9th place in the Premier AA.
Also contributing to the win was designated hitter Gonzalo Sánchez, who stroked a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth for Minnesota. For the game, Sánchez went 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Mercer Island manager Jared Gilbert. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
