Velázquez goes 3-for-4, Screaming Eagles Move to 48-27
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles relied on the hitting of first baseman Jorge Velázquez to stop the Asheville Highlanders, 12-0. For the game, Velázquez went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. The Screaming Eagles saw their win-loss record go to 48-27. At the same time, the Highlanders fall to 31-44.
Velázquez came through with some timely hitting for Mercer Island. With the score 2-0 in the top of the first and no one down, Velázquez hit a 2-0 fastball for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season -- and a big reason the Screaming Eagles managed to win.
Asheville manager Jacob Green called the blowout loss "a real stinker."
