The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles scored a 6-3 win versus the Asheville Highlanders at Asheville Park. Mercer Island pitcher Tomiji Saikawa nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Denis Melis earned the save, his 9th, for the Screaming Eagles. Mercer Island goes to 47-27. The win puts them 3½ games up in their division.

Ron Gérard was a key contributor to the win for the Screaming Eagles. In the top of the sixth with one out, the light-hitting center fielder stroked a double to left. He went 2-4 with a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

"This is a very good team," said Gérard. "We have the chance to do something special."
