Screaming Eagles Fall to Hops, 6-2
|
Yakima pitcher Mathieu Neri did his part in helping his team beat the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 6-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Neri picked up the win for Yakima, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 7-4. Earning his 6th save for Yakima was Finn Wuilink.
The game was on the line with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Nigel Sweeny didn't flinch. With the bases loaded and Mercer Island trailing 6-2, Sweeny retired Jorge Velázquez to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Sweeny, with a wink.
The second-place Hops now have a win-loss record of 43-28.
