Continentals Drop Another One
|
The Asheville Highlanders did just enough to sneak past the Chesapeake Continentals, 3-0, at Asheville Park. Asheville pitcher Edgardo Nava earned player of the game honors. Nava, now 2-6, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 1, walking 0, and allowing no earned runs. The last-place Continentals have dropped 6 straight games.
The Highlanders beat the Continentals in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the home run Bryce Bancroft produced in the bottom of the sixth. Batting against Chesapeake pitcher Pedro Silva, he gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a solo home run.
"We've hit a rough patch right now," said Chesapeake skipper José Flores.
