|
John Pemperton helped his team muscle past the Chesapeake Continentals, 6-2. In the game, the Asheville catcher was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. Romano Martínez got credit for the win, improving to 6-2. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 4 innings. The last-place Continentals have lost 5 consecutive games.
Pemperton came through with some timely hitting for Asheville. With the score 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth and two down, Pemperton hit a 1-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was his 13th hit of the season -- and a big reason the Highlanders managed to win.
In postgame comments to the Asheville Chronicle, Pemperton said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
