Continentals Jolt Hops with Late Rally
|
The Continentals grabbed a 6-2 win at Hops Park, overcoming a fine effort from Yakima pitcher Roberto Silva. Silva went 7.2 innings and allowed no earned runs. The winner was Francisco Sandoval, who threw 100 pitches over 7.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 5 hits. Earning his 1st save for Chesapeake was Pedro Silva.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the eighth inning when the Continentals sent 22-year-old center fielder Rudko Hrnjak to the plate with a runner on 2nd. The youngster shook off the pressure and reached on an error by the left fielder, driving in 1 run, to put Chesapeake on top, 2-1.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Chesapeake manager José Flores. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The Continentals, at 17-17, sit in 4th place in the Premier AA.
