Highlanders Fall Short at Chesapeake
The Chesapeake Continentals and Asheville Highlanders obliged those fans who came to Asheville Park hoping for an exciting game.

Asheville got a terrific game from designated hitter Paco Vásquez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Chesapeake, 6-5. Vásquez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Eddie Singer earned his 1st save in 1 tries.

In the top of the 8th, shortstop Miguel Cruz gave Chesapeake the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Continentals had been trailing 5-4, but the two-out single off Asheville pitcher Romano Martínez changed that -- and Chesapeake went on to win.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Cruz told the Chesapeake Gazette.

The Highlanders fall to 6-11 and continue their lackluster start in 2025.
