Reserves Deal Lynx 4-1 Setback
|
Alfredo Ríos never let the Calgary Lynx find their groove. Throughout the game, Ríos, who is tied for 5th in the PAAA with a 7 quality starts, relied on his bread and butter, his sinker, in pitching the Reserves to a win. António Silva was credited with the save for Athletic Club KC, his 12th of the season. The Reserves saw their win-loss record go to 32-29. At the same time, the Lynx fall to 31-30.
Tied up with the Lynx in the bottom of the fifth, the Reserves got a boost from catcher John Williams. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Williams saw a 2-1 cutter from António Rodríguez and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Athletic Club KC on top, 1-0.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Ríos. "Successful pitchers do it."
