Jim Unknown pitched well, but the San Bernardino Grasshoppers still lost the game, falling 4-2 to the Virginia Beach Deuces at Field of the Grasshoppers. Lindsay Novak, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 5th save. The third-place Deuces now have a 4-game winning streak.

A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fourth inning when the Deuces sent teenager Reg Spiers to the plate against Grasshoppers hurler Jim Unknown. With a runner on 1st and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 1-0 knuckle curve to score 1.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," Spiers told the Virginia Beach Daily News.
