Deuces Get 6-5 Win Versus Westwood
|
The Deuces took Westwood pitcher Alfonso Garza's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Sixshooters Stadium. The final score was 6-5. Garza went 5.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Jim Unknown picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 11 in 7.1 innings. Jim Unknown recorded the save for Virginia Beach, his 1st of the season.
Also doing his part was first baseman David Abreu, who stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth for Virginia Beach. For the game, Abreu went 2-5 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Abreu, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
The 4th-place Deuces are now 46-38, the Sixshooters 44-40.
