Rails Fall to Grasshoppers, 3-2

The San Bernardino Grasshoppers got a stellar effort from pitcher Manny Merico, helped San Bernardino score a 3-2 win over the visiting Richland Rails. San Bernardino reliever César Valdéz picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Stephen Hollingsworth shouldered the loss. Héctor Valentín was credited with the save for San Bernardino, his 12th of the season.
In the bottom of the 6th, third baseman Brandon Cole gave San Bernardino the lead when he hit a 2-run home run. The Grasshoppers had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out home run off Richland pitcher Stephen Hollingsworth changed that -- and San Bernardino went on to win.
"Manny was pounding the zone," said San Bernardino manager António Macías.
The Grasshoppers are now 30-32, while the Rails fall to 40-22.
