Nationals Sink Thunder Hawks, 8-7
|
The Ottawa Nationals turned back the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 8-7, at Nationals Park. Jesús Mancía was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Ottawa reliever Ralph Ogstoun picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Jim Unknown absorbed the loss. Rubén Villarreal got the save, the 6th for him this season.
Ottawa took a 8-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Brandon Carroll hit a clutch 2-run home run to bring Nationals fans to their feet.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Mancía told the Ottawa Citizen.
The 11th-place Nationals are now 21-29, the Thunder Hawks 28-22.
