Sonics Lose to Deuces in Walk Off
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Virginia Beach Deuces and the Atlantic City Sonics, pitcher Jim Unknown was excellent. The Virginia Beach right-hander was named the player of the game in Virginia Beach's 1-0 win. Virginia Beach reliever Olegário Pa picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. David Sherratt took the loss. The 'W' lifts Virginia Beach's record to 17-22.
Curt Wilson was the walk-off hero for Virginia Beach. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, the Virginia Beach pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Unknown told the Virginia Beach Daily News: "This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents. Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
