Oakland got a terrific game from catcher José Vargas. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Richardson City, 6-5. Vargas was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Richardson City is in first place in the Division I with a record of 47-25.

Mitch Qualtrough found himself in a pressure situation in the top of the ninth. Facing Oakland hurler Enrique López, the 21-year-old shortstop hit a sacrifice fly. His 34th RBI of the season put the Thundercats on top, 6-5.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling pretty confident after that win," said Qualtrough.
