Grey Wolves Saddle Retrievers with 5-4 Loss
|
The Vancouver Grey Wolves racked up a win at Ballpark of Northern Virginia, bumping off the Northern Virginia Retrievers, 5-4. Job Poppe, who started for Vancouver, pitched effectively for his team. Poppe was the winning pitcher and moves to 1-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 5 walks. David Hudson earned the save, his 26th, for the Grey Wolves.
José Alonso's at-bat in the top of the seventh was significant, coming with a runner on 2nd and the game tied, 4-4. The Vancouver left fielder hit a run-scoring single off Ángel Navarro to put the Grey Wolves up.
"I like our moxie," said Vancouver Grey Wolves manager David Krause.
The third-place Grey Wolves raised their record to 41-31.
