|
The Rocky Mountain Nuggets relied on the hitting of center fielder Javier Martínez to stop the Kingston Township Legion, 7-3. For the game, Martínez was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Cipriano Costa earned the win to go to 8-3. He allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Jorge Garza recorded the save for Rocky Mountain, his 6th of the season.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the fifth, with the game tied, Michael Riley was at the plate when Rocky Mountain scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Nuggets to go in front, 1-0.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Martínez told the Rocky Mountain News.
The win puts the Nuggets at 44-38, while the Legion drop to 42-40.
