Whalers Come Back Late to Clip Red Knights
The Hartford Whalers had to overcome a big game from Capital District first baseman Sergio Ortíz to leave Ballpark of Hartford with a 5-3 victory. Ortíz went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI. José Rico got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The 9th-place Whalers raised their record to 24-30.

Hartford took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Juan García hit a clutch 2-run home run to bring Whalers fans to their feet.

"We're a pretty talented bunch when we're playing well," said García. "I think we showed that here."
