Big Day for Strickland as Battlekings Down Fighting Dachsunds, 14-5
|
The Naperville Battlekings knocked off the Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds, 14-5, at Constellation Ballpark. Philip Strickland, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Naperville won. The right fielder went 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Chris Hayes, credited with the win, is now 4-5. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 8 innings. Even with the win, the Naperville Battlekings have a dismal 19-41 record.
A defensive miscue in the bottom of the sixth could have cost the Battlekings. With Naperville leading 4-3, Miguel Rodríguez reached on an error by the left fielder, driving in 1 run. In the end, Naperville was still able to win the ballgame.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Strickland told a Naperville Herald reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
