Timber Hawks Fall to Pérez, Fighting Dachsunds
|
The Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds downed the Augusta Timber Hawks, 8-5, at Dog Park in Ellenburg. The Fighting Dachsunds were led by Pedro Pérez, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Luis Mata, who went 6.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 10 hits, while walking 6 and striking out 1. His record now stands at 1-0. The loss lowers the record for Augusta to 1-1.
The Fighting Dachsunds beat the Timber Hawks in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the triple José Ortega produced in the bottom of the fourth. Batting against Augusta pitcher Cristiano Marron, he gave his team a 5-3 lead when he hit a 2-run triple.
In postgame remarks, Ortega said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
