Blue Sox Ballpark was the site of a tense game between the Irving Blue Sox and Myrtle Beach Mermen.
In a low-scoring tilt between the Myrtle Beach Mermen and the Irving Blue Sox, pitcher Carlos Gómez was the difference-maker. The Myrtle Beach right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-1 win. Francisco Gonsáles, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 28th save.
Myrtle Beach grabbed the momentum in the top of the sixth, when Gómez hit a 2-run home run. His 6th home run put the Mermen out in front, 2-0.
"This team is real focused right now," said Myrtle Beach Mermen manager Barry Embling.
The first-place Blue Sox have lost 4 consecutive games.
