Miners Walk It Off for 39th Win of Season
|
The Marquette Miners did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Salem Misfits at Marquette Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Héctor Silva, who captured player of the game honors. The win was credited to Jim Unknown in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Biff Tannen took the loss. Marquette now sits in second place in the Silver AA at 39-28.
Greg Gross was the walk-off hero for Marquette. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, the Marquette center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring double to send the teams home.
In comments to the Marquette Times, Gross admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
