Big Day by Downing Ignites Athletic Club KC Win
|
The Athletic Club KC defeated the Panama City Piranhas, 7-6, in Premier League action at The Tank. John Downing received player of the game honors. The 13-year veteran went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Bill Oulton was the winner. Over 8.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Gene Kirkland got the save, the 11th for him this season.
Downing had a key at-bat for Athletic Club KC early in the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and gave Athletic Club KC an early 3-0 lead.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Andy Mayfield.
The Athletic Club KC bumped their record to 24-21 with this latest triumph.
