Charles Mathes helped his team muscle past the Northern Virginia Retrievers, 6-3. In the game, the D.C. center fielder was 2-4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. José Alaniz got the win, improving to 5-4. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. D.C. has now won 3 straight, while the Retrievers have lost 3 in a row.
D.C. grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Mathes, who is tied for 2nd in the PL in total bases with 91, hit a 2-run triple. His 2nd triple put the Divided out in front, 5-3.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Mathes.
