Oaks Lose to Retrievers in Walk Off
The inspired effort of Oakland right fielder Mal Wadley was not enough to prevent a 8-7 loss to the Northern Virginia Retrievers. Wadley was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Northern Virginia reliever Ángel Navarro was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Júlio Saldaña took the loss for Oakland. The Retrievers now have a record of 14-27 with the win over Oakland.

Late in the game, first baseman Roberto Sánchez had a big at-bat for Northern Virginia. In the bottom of the 11th, he hit a run-scoring triple off Júlio Saldaña. The play gave the Retrievers a 8-7 lead.

"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant David Lenlister, the Northern Virginia skipper.
