With first baseman Lupo Cotto leading the charge, the Myrtle Beach Mermen defeated the Marquette Miners, 12-3, at Tennille Grounds. Cotto, who is tied for 10th in the SAA in total bases with 26, went 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Myrtle Beach, now 9-4, has gotten their season off to a good start.

Also producing for Myrtle Beach was left fielder Carlos Gómez, who stroked a 2-run single in the bottom of the second. For the game, Gómez went 1-5, while adding 2 RBI.
