Lake Monsters Jolt Golden Cranes with Late Rally
|
The Santa Barbara Golden Cranes got a superb performance from pitcher Roger Garrett. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Vermont. The Lake Monsters won the game, 8-5. In spite of the loss, Garrett was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. Vermont reliever John Boyle picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Nick Taylor absorbed the loss. Jim Unknown converted his 1st save in 1 tries.
Manny Valentín had a clutch at-bat with one out in the bottom of the eighth for the Lake Monsters. Coming up with the bases loaded and Vermont trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run double.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Valentín. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The Vermont Lake Monsters have an impressive 56-35 record.
