Martínez Batters Vermont for 5 Hits
|
The Port Royal Disaster stopped the Vermont Lake Monsters by a score of 7-6 at Ballpark of Port Royal today, with the lion's share of the credit going to shortstop Sergio Martínez. The 24-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Martínez said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Martínez did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Lake Monsters.
"Not much that I can say," offered Vermont manager Mike Cunningham. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Sergio Martínez hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, struck out in the 7th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
A look at his current stats shows Martínez with a .332 average, 6 home runs, 53 RBIs and 55 runs scored. He has played in 87 games.
