Lake Monsters Get Win, Extend Streak to 5
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters eeked out a 2-1 win versus the Santa Barbara Golden Cranes at Crane Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Roberto Cantú, who captured player of the game honors. Jorge Ayala picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Alex Simmons was tagged with the loss. The third-place Lake Monsters now have a 5-game winning streak.
Vermont pinch hitter Ray John said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with a runner on 2nd in the top of the seventh. He did more than that -- John hit a 2-run home run to stake Vermont to a 2-0 lead. His 1st home run of the season came off Santa Barbara pitcher Alex Simmons.
"I like our mindset right now," said Vermont manager Mike Cunningham.
