Multi-HR Game for Barksdale in 9-7 Win
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Chicago Hawks, 9-7, at Hawks Ballpark. Brooklyn right fielder Avon Barksdale earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Brooklyn starter Scott Woodger was credited with the win after throwing 97 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 2-3. The save went to John Bailey, his 6th this season.
Barksdale came through with some timely hitting for Brooklyn. With the score 1-0 in the top of the first and one down, Barksdale hit a first pitch forkball for a 2-run home run. It was his 8th home run of the season -- and a big reason the Dodgers managed to win.
"Enjoyed this one," Barksdale told the Brooklyn Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
