Legion Lose to Whalers, 7-6
|
Fans who came to Cloverdale Legion Park watched the Hartford Whalers and the Kingston Township Legion fight to the finish.
Hartford beat Kingston Township, 7-6. The win in part was due to shortstop Joe Craig, who nabbed player of the game honors. He went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The winner was Sukejuro Yokoyama, who threw 87 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 6 runs on 7 hits. Glenn West recorded his 2nd save for Hartford.
With Hartford leading 4-3 in the top of the fourth, Craig hit a fastball from Jon Briddon for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Whalers ahead, 7-3.
Craig called the triumph "a good team win."
The 10th-place Whalers raised their record to 12-16.
