Flamingos Topple BC as Young Shines
|
With catcher Jeff Young leading the charge, the Las Vegas Flamingos defeated the Philadelphia 1776 BC, 10-5, at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum. Young, the 11 overall pick in the 2019 draft, went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times. Cris Herrera got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 1. The Las Vegas Flamingos keep rolling, raising their record to 4-1.
Tied up with the BC in the top of the seventh, the Flamingos got a boost from right fielder Sinclair van Kooten. With the bases loaded, van Kooten saw a 1-0 slider from William MacKnight and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Las Vegas on top, 4-2.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager JJ Hoban said.
