The Capital District Red Knights bested the Hartford Whalers, 8-7, at Capital Grounds. Arturo Hernández was named player of the game. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Capital District reliever Marlon Miller picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Johnny Allen absorbed the loss. Miguel Toro earned the save for Capital District, his 1st of the year.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop José Paz came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Hartford pitcher Johnny Allen, he hit a 2-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Capital District on top, 8-7.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Paz, "but we got it done."

The win takes Capital District to 1-1.
