Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Capital District Red Knights home opener. Luis Peña started for the home team against Sukejuro Yokoyama for the Hartford Whalers. The Red Knights were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 5-4, Hartford. Thomas Vaughan was named player of the game. Hartford reliever Andrew Webster was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Miguel Toro took the loss for Capital District. Ryoichi Maruyama got the save, the 1st for him this season.

The most important at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Miguel Toro threw a 2-2 sinker to Vaughan, which he hit to right-center for a 2-run home run. It put Hartford in front, 5-4.

"It was a solid team effort," said Vaughan after the game.
