5-for-8 Day for Haynes Friday, September 13th, 2024 On top of the Myrtle Beach hit parade today was Sal Haynes. He went to the plate 8 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Mermen to a 4-3 victory over the Durham Rapiers. The sweet swinging shortstop told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats." The skipper of the Rapiers wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that." Sal Haynes flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Francisco Martínez in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, struck out in the 9th, struck out in the 11th, singled in the 13th, doubled in the 15th and walked in a run in the 16th. Haynes currently has a .277 batting average with 91 hits, 8 homers, 34 RBIs, 42 runs scored and a .318 OBP. |
