Fog Pitching Ravaged by Mateo Friday, September 13th, 2024 It was an almost perfect day. Phoenix catcher Júlio Mateo displayed a hot bat today, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day. But something was missing -- the Hotspur Reserves failed to win -- they lost to the Sunset District Fog 14-10. "Some days, Lady Luck is on your side, some days she's not," he modestly told BNN reporters after the game. His manager told the beat writers otherwise, "His hitting wasn't luck today. It's his solid approach to hitting. Júlio is focused, patient and he hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have, and vice versa." The 26-year-old catcher for the Hotspur Reserves collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats to get his name in the record book. Júlio Mateo hit a three-run home run off Jesús Franco in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th. For the season Mateo is currently batting .233 with 7 home runs and 30 RBIs. In 75 games he has reached base at a .334 rate and scored 23 runs to date. |
