YES! YES! It's a Perfect No-No for Lio Wednesday, September 14th, 2022 One of the rarest feats in baseball occurred in the United States Premier League today. A perfect game! At The Cattle Pen Bartolomeu Lio of the Ft. Worth Cattlemen faced 27 batters and retired every one of them in order in his 5-0 victory. There were no runs, no hits, no errors, no walks and no one got on base as he struck out 10 bewildered Phoenix Hotspur in a remarkable pitching performance. "This was one of those games where a good athlete was on top of his game," said his manager afterward. "He had a tremendous rhythm out there. His focus, his concentration, his stuff, everything was as good as it could possibly be." Lio took all the accolades and attention in stride. "A game like this was pretty special. It doesn't come along very often. But winning the game is the main thing." Late in the game, Lio sat by himself at one end of the dugout, staring at the ground with his eyes half-closed. No one would come near him, afraid of jinxing him. It is baseball superstition that no one in the dugout mentions a no-hitter -- much less a perfect game -- until it is completed. When it was over, Lio simply pumped his fist, but his teammates were more excited. This was an historic game for all of them. They mobbed him and the fans gave him a standing ovation for his great game. This season Lio has a 10-4 record with a 2.74 ERA in 20 starts. |
