Méndez Pitches South Beach to Shutout Victory Friday, July 16th, 2021 "He was too darn good for us today," grumbled the Phoenix manager after his club suffered a 12-0 shutout at the hands of Juan Méndez of the South Beach Blaze. He held the Phoenix Hotspur U-21 scoreless in a 5-hit whitewash. Méndez was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing. In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Juan did a whale of a pitching job." So far this season Méndez is 6-and-4 with no saves and a 2.13 ERA. He has given up 92 hits in 97.1 innings with 76 strikeouts. |
