Injury Worsens, Myrtle Beach's Ford Ends Career
Sunday, December 27th, 2020
"It's one of the worst injuries of its kind I have ever encountered." Those were the opening words of the specialist that treated Myrtle Beach Seahawks reliever Tom Ford for a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. Speaking at a press conference, the doctor went on to say, "In my professional opinion, it is highly doubtful that Tom will ever play baseball again. Miracles are always possible, but not in this case. The original injury was treatable, but several setbacks during the rehabilitation worsened the situation and did more damage." The distraught Ford also spoke to reporters, saying, "I anticipated that the recovery would be slow, but I never expected this." Team officials said that the 20-year-old Ford would take a few weeks to decide about his future.

Since breaking into the league, Ford has compiled a 0-5 mark, has pitched in 16 games and has been credited with no saves and a 4.18 ERA.
